Gameplay
General Stats
With a base structure of 7700 and a base shield maximum of 2100, Razorside has average totals across the board, playing nicely into his generalist nature.
General Playstyle
Razorside is an excellent introductory Hunter with a simple, close-ranged kit. He is something of a jack of all trades, having some survivability, respectable DPS (damage per second), and some mid-range/area denial capability with his modifications, but excels in none of those areas compared to his fellows.
This Hunter is best suited to skirmishing, taking short, quick trades, and outlasting his opponents through resource attrition.
Systems
Weapon System
Razorside’s weapon system is an assault rifle that is optimized for close-quarters combat, providing solid sustained DPS at the cost of range due to its falloff and wide natural spread.
Barrage
This modification enhances Razorside’s abilities, passively granting him a sizeable ability power boost. It modifies his gun to have a 36-round clip with 3-bullets burst capabilities, and has the possibility to quick reload – it also deals slightly more damage per bullet than Relentless. At higher levels, this modification grants shield recharge cooldown reduction and enhances all abilities further on quick reload.
Relentless
This modification enhances Razorside’s sustained damage in close-quarters combat. It modifies the weapon to have a 24-round clip with full-auto capabilities and causes every consecutive hit on an enemy to grant a stacking damage bonus for a brief period of time.
While it has the highest damage output of his weapon modifications at maximum rank, it suffers the most at range due to its wide natural spread. At higher levels, this modification grants a chance to return ammunition to the magazine upon critical hits and reduces the weapon’s recoil and scatter by a significant margin.
Main Frame
Calloused
Calloused enhances Razorside’s survivability by reducing ability cooldown when his structure is critically low. When below 15% structure, ability cooldown is reduced by 20%, allowing for more frequent ability use in desperate situations. Upgrading this modification introduces additional benefits, including a temporary ammo overcharge that triggers under the same threshold, enabling Razorside to fire without consuming ammo for 4 seconds (with a 30-second cooldown).
Additionally, Calloused provides scaling damage resistance, granting a 5% buff for every 7,000 damage received, up to a maximum of two stacks. However, this resistance is lost upon death, making it a temporary but impactful boost during prolonged engagements.
Lifeline
This modification increases Razorside’s ability to recover from damage, offering scaling cooldown reduction to the shield regeneration timer (10 seconds at max rank). While not a direct combat aid, this allows Razorside to trade aggressively and recover faster from brief encounters, as he will generally regain his shield before the opponent can. At higher levels, Lifeline adds further bonuses, increasing the value of repair kit effectiveness and granting critical hit resistance.
Abilities
Ability 1: Shield Recharge
The core of Razorside’s kit, this ability serves as his bread-and-butter, allowing him to instantly restore a sizeable portion of his shield. The ability’s cooldown is respectably low, allowing you to recover faster from PVE combat, mitigate incoming damage in a bad situation or reduce damage taken in a fight.
Overdrive
Overdrive enhances Razorside’s combat performance by providing a temporary damage boost and reducing ability cooldown, with additional benefits unlocked at higher levels. Upon activation, it increases weapon damage by 4% for 5 seconds, giving Razorside an edge in short bursts of combat. Initially, this is its primary effect, but as the mod is upgraded, it also begins to reduce ability cooldown by 2.5 seconds, allowing for more frequent ability use.
At its highest level, Overdrive further improves survivability by restoring an additional 1,000 shield points when structure integrity drops below 50%. With two charges and a 45-second cooldown, Overdrive balances offense and defense, making it a strong choice for aggressive playstyles.
Rampart
Rampart enhances Razorside’s shield replenishment by converting excess shield restoration into an overshield, providing increased durability in combat. By default, when the ability restores more than 100% of max shield points, 60% of the excess is converted into an overshield, giving Razorside additional protection.
As the mod is upgraded, it gains extra benefits, including passive structure regeneration of 100 points per second while the overshield is active. At its highest level, Rampart further improves cooldown management, reducing ability cooldown by 10 seconds whenever an overshield is created. With a single charge and a 50-second cooldown, this mod is ideal for sustaining Razorside in prolonged engagements.
Ability 2: Frag Grenade
This ability is unlocked once Razorside reaches level 3 in-game, offering a low-cooldown burst of area-of-effect damage. While not especially useful in a direct gunfight, this ability is good for flushing enemies from cover and destroying deployed defenses.
Detonator
Detonator enhances Razorside’s frag grenades by weakening enemies and rewarding precise hits. By default, enemies hit by the grenade deal 4% less damage for 5 seconds, providing a subtle but valuable debuff in combat. As the mod is upgraded, its cooldown is slightly reduced from 30 to 27.5 seconds, allowing for more frequent grenade usage.
At its highest level, Detonator further increases its impact by adding an extra 500 damage on direct hits, making well-placed throws significantly more rewarding. With its mix of debuff potential and direct damage scaling, Detonator is an effective choice for players who favor precision and tactical advantage.
Shrapnel
Shrapnel increases Razorside’s frag grenade explosion damage at the cost of a longer fuse time, making it a high-risk, high-reward choice. By default, it boosts explosion damage from 2,500 to 2,850, allowing for stronger area-of-effect attacks. As the mod is upgraded, it gains additional utility, applying a damage-over-time effect that inflicts 100 damage per second for 5 seconds.
At its highest level, Shrapnel further enhances its impact by reducing ability cooldown by 20 seconds if a grenade eliminates an enemy. With a longer 2.5-second fuse and an increased 40-meter explosion radius, this mod favors precise timing and well-placed throws for maximum effectiveness.
General Strategy
While his playstyle changes depending on build, in general, Razorside is a Hunter who excels in the early levels of a match. At lower levels, the combination of his rifle’s sustained DPS in close and the burst of survivability that Shield Recharge offers is often enough to turn the tides of a fight.
As such, he is often encouraged to play aggressively in early fights. From the mid-game onward, however, Razorside begins to struggle – while he remains a threat, Hunter damage output increases enough to be able to melt his boosted shields with much less issue and his Frag Grenade is less impactful overall in direct combat compared to other level 3 spikes.
This is when his skirmishing role becomes epitomized; in late-game encounters, Razorside thrives on the fringes of fights involving multiple teams, as his natural sources of regeneration allow him to outlast the resources of other teams provided he is not heavily forced on.
Advanced Tips
- Shield Recharge is a one-handed action that interrupts all other actions you take when used. Be careful with how you time it, as it adds a brief pause that the enemy can exploit.
- Frag Grenade normally bounces once, but angling it into uneven terrain causes the grenade to stick in place at the area you targeted. Use this to surprise targets on Crimson Ridge!
Highlighted Synergies
Razorside naturally pairs to the majority of the roster, as his versatile kit always allows him to bring something to the table. Hunters like Weaver and Ursus allow him to play far more aggressively with a second target to draw fire and keep pressure on, while long-range damage dealers like Heartbreaker and Prophet allow the team more agency at range and the ability to force targets out of cover with ease.
