Gameplay
An imposing, but quite vulnerable Hunter equipped with a mid-range charge rifle, based around controlling the battlefield with his abilities.
General Stats
As a strategic mastermind that controls the battle from afar, Prophet currently shares the lowest amount of structure points and shields together with Heartbreaker and Trenchwalker, with 7000 and 2100 respectively.
General Playstyle
Prophet is a rather squishy Hunter focused on controlling enemy movement options with his abilities, while safely peak-shooting from behind cover. Thanks to the nature of his weapon not requiring a constant line of sight towards his enemies he is effectively countering automatic weapon users. However, one must keep in mind that Prophet possesses no escape ability, making him incredibly vulnerable to getting rushed down.
Systems
Weapon System
Prophet’s weapon system is a medium range Charge Cannon, and as the name implies, can be charged up to almost double its damage, tho weapon relies on player hitting critical hits or one might be severely disappointed with its damage.
Plague
An option for those who crave to slowly drive enemies mad with constant Damage Over Time effect, effortless to apply at any range. Trades direct damage for plague mechanic, applying up to 3 plague stacks per shot according to charge level with Plague manifesting on targets with 4 stacks. Furthermore, Prophet is rewarded for hitting already plagued enemies via extra damage and even more so, the ability to spread Plague to nearby enemies while hitting a plagued enemy with a fully charged shot. While the scenario comes up surprisingly rarely, extra mayhem sure does bring a ton of joy.
Gospel
The mod doubles down on Prophet’s need for precision, granting a damage bonus on hitting crits. Its a tool of raw damage, lessening the time Prophet wastes on charging while having a target to shoot at thanks to reducing charge time on fully charged hits.
Mainframe System
Salvation
Survivability-focused Mainframe, giving a small heal burst a few seconds after taking health damage, perfect for his poking playstyle. The benefits don’t end there, however, as two other bonuses work together to grant Prophet what he sorely lacks-some escape ability. With a lowered shield recharge cooldown and a speed boost on shield break Prophet is less prone to ugly surprises allowing him to get to a safe spot more easily.
Wrath
This mod is all about taking some punishment and turning it against the ones who dared to raise their hand against you. For every 600 damage received Prophet gets a stack of Wrath (up to 4) granting multiple benefits. The next ability cast is enhanced and gets an AP bonus, regens some shields, and gains a lower cooldown.
Ability 1: Sentinel Drone
Sentinel Drone, an ability available from level 1, mainly serves as a distraction that allows Prophet to carry out his battle plans, while possibly hindering those of enemies’. With constant gunfire and barrages Sentinel Drone renders all kits requiring some channeling nigh impossible to use, forcing the enemy to drop what they are doing and focus down the Drone. If positioned too hastily, not creating another front for enemies to fight on, the Drone will most likely be gunned down bringing little to no benefit for Prophet.
Abilities
Ability 1: Sentinel Drone
Sentinel Drone, an ability available from level 1, mainly serves as a distraction that allows Prophet to carry out his battle plans, while possibly hindering those of enemies’. With constant gunfire and barrages Sentinel Drone renders all kits requiring some channeling nigh impossible to use, forcing the enemy to drop what they are doing and focus down the Drone. If positioned too hastily, not creating another front for enemies to fight on, the Drone will most likely be gunned down bringing little to no benefit for Prophet.
Harbinger
This drone is the perfect addition to any debuff enthusiasts, as it provides quite a variety. Just by existing nearby foes it lowers their damage, slowly takes away their health possibly interrupting some action a little better, and as a cherry on top, slows targeted enemies, allowing its other debuffs to work longer, and takes away precious mobility that Prophet usually craves for, allowing for easier aggression, or escape from the affected target.
Martyr
This mod sports a little less health compared to its counterpart, emphasizing the disposable aspect of the drone. If it gets destroyed, be it by its lifetime running its course or getting shot by enemies, it enters “kamikaze” mode, giving the Drone a few seconds long “second life” on death to find an enemy to detonate on, with the explosion range further improved in its effects. Its death also has a support side, as it heals Prophet adding some sustain to his kit, allowing for more prolonged engagements and to brush off poke damage easier. Last but not least the general cooldown reduction on the ability further amplifies the disposability of the drone.
Ability 2: Vengeance Strike
Vengeance Strike, an ability available once Prophet hits level 3, is his main tool for applying pressure on his enemies, smoking them out of precious cover or heavily damaging and potentially killing those foolish enough to ignore it. Strike is best used in places where enemies already deployed their defensive abilities, given that in such cases it usually may take a few precious seconds for an enemy to abandon their newly acquired position.
Inferno
Area denial-focused mod, providing twice the rocket drop radius of its other option. Its effects focus on adding a new fire effect on rocket impact, burning anyone standing in the crater and applying a defense debuff, making them take more damage from all attacks. The fire itself lingers for a few seconds after leaving the impact zone, however without the damage weakness.
Trial
This mod is the more direct damaging of the two, sporting higher explosion damage as well as shorter wait time between the booms, with its targeting radius expanding if one holds the ability a bit in the air before casting, as well as boosts the explosion radius of rockets themselves, making sure that even more rockets reach their target.
General Strategy
Prophet is a Hunter relying on both his Charge Cannon and abilities, with the first gifting him with an excellent poking tool, while the other provides him with a re-summonable, weaker 3rd teammate as well as a potential of massive damage on stationary targets.
Staying strong from the very beginning until the dawn of the match. Prophet isn’t as dependent as some other Hunters on unlocking the 3rd level. Vengeance Strike can be very powerful but Prophet’s main friend is the Sentinel Drone, providing him with another front for enemies to fight on. Being a single-shot type of weapon user, Prophet adores peaking from corners, safely charging up the shot behind a rock to then unleash its full power with minimal risks, standing in an open field just brings unneeded danger.
Depending on the mod choices charge mechanic flips between mandatory and a very nice but necessary bonus, Gospel pretty much needs full charges to work well while Plague Prophet can focus on being a constant annoying source of DoT, with 2 quick half charges infecting the chosen foe.
When it comes to Strike Vengeance it’s best used when surrounding foes are distracted, if one uses it when already under fire Prophet puts himself as a perfect target practice: locked in place in the middle of the sky with no movement possible. In general, movement is his major weakness, one has to pay extra attention to their surroundings and treat them as if death can hide everywhere, contrary to all other Hunters he has no panic button, no way to suddenly turn the tides.
Advanced Tips
- Make use of situational awareness when placing your Sentinel. Even when the casting range is limited, direct the Drone towards an additional flank for your opponents to put on pressure and distract them from your actions, or simply allow them to eat the punishment of letting the Sentinel go free.
- Sprinting can be used to quickly interrupt the weapon charge animation.
Highlighted Synergies
Prophet mainly benefits from attention drawers, who let him do his job in peace. As such hunters like Ursus, Razorside, Fenris, or Weaver can be great teammates, by either being tanky, loud, or both. Playing with a Heartbreaker while not the end of the world leaves the duo with no frontline making any slightly missed enemy push a death sentence.
