Monster Hunter Wilds – What is the Best Light Bowgun to Make?

Artian, Non Artian, and Pierce Builds Guide

Ву Titan.

There is no single best Light Bowgun. Ideally, you should craft at least five: one for Fire, Ice, Thunder, Water, and Raw damage, which is typically Pierce.

Elemental Light Bowgun (Artian)

Fire – Ice – Water – Thunder

To build an Artian Elemental Light Bowgun, use three Artian pieces, all with Attack, matching the chosen element. For Reinforcements, prioritize three Attack and two Capacity.

Raw Pierce Light Bowgun

The Rey Dau (Szelatya Clairgun) is the best for Pierce Ammo. Other strong options include the Rathian (Valkyrie Flame) and the Arveld (Expiating Caius). Notably, the Szelatya Clairgun comes with Paralysis Ammo and the Expiating Caius has Sleep Ammo.

Spread & Normal Ammo Light Bowguns

These are generally not recommended, but if you want to experiment:

  • Use the Guardian Doshaguma (Gigasbreaker Urbolkule) for Spread Lv 3.
  • Use the Doshaguma (Faithbreaker Leibolkule) for Normal Lv 3.

Decorations

Here is an example of how to decorate a Light Bowgun for elemental damage:

Check the Elemental Ammo Type

Identify the elemental ammo the Light Bowgun uses (e.g., Flaming Ammo). The most important skill is the corresponding elemental damage boost. For Flaming Ammo, this means Blaze (Fire Attack), which increases elemental damage.

Maximize Elemental Damage

Prioritize maxing out Blaze (Fire Attack) to maximize your fire damage.

Enhance Critical Chance

Slot in Tetrad Shot (Bandolier), which increases your critical chance starting from the fourth shot and boosts the damage of the fourth and sixth shot. Slot in Critical Element, which enables elemental damage to benefit from critical hits by applying a critical hit damage multiplier.

Adjust for Built-in Skills

Some weapons may already have a skill listed above. In that case, increase the level of any remaining skill that isn’t maxed—such as Critical Element in this example.

Artian Decoration Example

  • Tetrad/Blaze
  • Crit Ele/Blaze
  • Opener/Blaze

No Artian yet?

Here are alternatives.

All of these have status ammo that an Artian will not have while having clip 6, so that is one thing these non Artians have going for them. I imagine Water LBG will change when Mizutsune releases.

Don’t have the listed Decorations?

If you don’t have dual-skill decorations, use the element that matches your ammo type.

  • Example: Instead of Blaze/Bandolier, go with Blaze/Crit Element – Bandolier Lv 2 – Bandolier Lv 1.

The most important skill is the Elemental skill that matches your damage, such as Blaze, Stream, Freeze, or Thunder.

Basic Pierce 3 build can work with the Rathian (Valkyrie Flame) and the Arveld (Expiating Caius).

Set up your Radial Menu to select an Ammo type and Craft Ammo

Pick a tab in the Radial Menu and clear it out, then put the Ammo types you will be using in there, you will also put the option to craft more ammo there and you will select “Craft All”. The images should guide you how to do it.

Finish these quest so you can passively farm materials for ammo. Buy the ammo from the Merchant and keep the raw materials from the Material Retrieval so you can craft during the Hunt, by using your Radial Menu.

You need to put the raw material in you pack so you can craft the ammo while out on the hunt.
